Project Brief
Cities become well known and recognized by their famous landmarks. Seattle is most well known not only for the Space Needle but also it’s fish throwers at Pike Place Market. Elaborating on the history of each individual business and honoring the present, updating and maintaining the site is essential.
Post Alley is a metropolis of movement and a hub for both day time and night activities. The space seems to always have people standing in line for Seattle’s Best Chowder, or walking through as a pathway. The busiest times are on the weekends from about 10:00am- 5:00pm June- September. During these times 88% of the people passing through the space are looking forward or down, moving through, unable to enjoy the history.
Post Alley embodies history of the Market. The worn-brick facades and original single paned glass windows surround this 100 foot long and 20-25 foot wide alley. However with all of the movement, the visitors are not able to fully appreciate their surroundings.
Our intentions are to restore the historical prowess and give attention back to the space via improving the efficiency of the circulation; altering the seating; defining spaces through materiality; creating a focus on local artists and Seattle culture.
